Point's leader Sam Hornish, Jr, crashed and finished 14th, while Helio Castroneves car was damaged in the first turn of the race - slowing him to a fifth place finish.

Michael Schumacher dominated the 70-lap French Grand Prix to claim a new record in winning the same Grand Prix eight times. Schumacher started from the Pole Position and was never really challenged as he controlled the pace in his Bridgestone-shod Ferrari and took the chequered flag with a comfortable gap over Fernando Alonso with Felipe Massa coming home third.
In his debut season, Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa today claimed his second career victory in the GAS British Grand Prix, the ninth round of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix (MotoGP) held on the Donington Park circuit. The reigning World Champion, Valentino Rossi, took home second place after a fantastic race, followed by his countryman Marco Melandri.
Michael Schumacher played it cool, bided his time and then took the US Grand Prix victory - his fourth straight win at the fabled brickyard. Starting from Pole Position, Schumacher lost out to the fast-starting Felipe Massa on the run down to turn one and then shadowed his team-mate before taking the position during the first round of pit stops. From that point it was job done for Schumacher who controlled his pace for the remainder of the event and crossed the line eight seconds ahead of Massa - who was never going to threaten his team-leader following the pit stops. With Ferrari dominant first and second on their Bridgestone rubber, Giancarlo Fisichella drove a solid race to third, fighting his way passed his struggling team-mate to take the chequered flag in third position, just under nine seconds behind Massa.
